CMBE policy on CPD during COVID-19 pandemic
The Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) scheme requires subscribers to complete 40 hours of CPD per year towards their ongoing professional development. We recognise that as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been significant disruption to teaching and that face-to-face CPD activities may have been cancelled or postponed. We understand that this might affect your ability to undertake CPD during this period.
In light of this, the CMBE Professional Standards Board has agreed the following policy:
- CMBEs are encouraged to continue to undertake CPD where they can and seek alternatives such as webinars and reading articles.
- Exceptions will be made if a subscriber’s ability to undertake CPD has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Subscribers who have been affected and are due to renew their subscription may still sign their annual declaration and confirm that they have undertaken CPD and were on course to fulfil their commitment to 40 hours. Please note, those subscribers who are audited must be able to explain how their plans have been affected and be able to provide evidence of the CPD they have completed prior to, and following, the COVID-19 pandemic.
- This policy will be kept under review.
Guidance for educators
Reflect on the development you have undertaken in response to the pandemic. Many educators have been going through an intensive period of learning new tools, techniques and pedagogical approaches. Consider what impact this has had on your development and your practice, and if appropriate you can use it for up 10 hours of Reflection and Development.
Find alternative CPD activities. For example, webinars and online training will be increasingly available from a range of organisations and within institutions. Chartered ABS are also bringing forward our plans to offer webinars and online provision. Consider reading articles related to your field, which can be used against ‘Private Related Studies’ for up to 5 hours of CMBE CPD units.
Keep evidence of cancelled CPD activities. If you are unable to meet your commitment because an activity you were intending to attend has been cancelled, please retain evidence of this cancellation as it may be useful if you are selected for audit.
