Educational leadership involves working with teams, where the achievements and impact of leadership is articulated through the success of others. Consequently, leaders often struggle to articulate their impact in promotion and recognition processes. Furthermore, leadership in the complex space of educational development requires individuals to be supported to engage with and understand a widening network of communities of practice.
Brokering (Wenger 2000) involves the processes of translation, coordination and alignment of different perspectives. Hence, brokering has potential as a framework to scaffold leadership development and support colleagues to develop their leadership narrative.
This session will review the theory of brokering and the skills for effective brokering. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own skills through anonymous live polling and hence consider the potential of brokering as an approach to frame their impactful leadership narrative .
