LGBT Staff and Students in Business Schools:
Exploring Best Practice and Research

19 January 2017, Trinity House Chapel, De Montfort University, Leicester

In some respects, universities have been leaders in supporting LGBT issues, especially with respect to students. This has not always fed through to universities' own HR practices, and at least anecdotally, business schools fare quite poorly in this respect. There is no quantitative data to analyse how LGBT faculty progress relative to heterosexual colleagues, although there is gradually some qualitative analysis of how they operate and succeed within heteronormative organisations.

This workshop will explore the experiences of LGBT faculty, consider the academic research on the topic, and learn best practices from other sectors. The session will also consider how business schools prepare their students to work in diverse workplaces. This could be of interest for any institution considering becoming Athena SWAN accredited.
