Monthly update from our CEO Anne Kiem

Anne Kiem, Chief Executive of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, provides some insights in her latest monthly update

As the saying goes, we live in interesting times. As the General Election approaches no-one can predict the outcome, yet what is certain is that for universities and business schools in particular, the outcome is hugely important. The two major parties appear to have contrasting options between international students being included in the net migration targets on the one hand and a reduction in the maximum tuition fees on the other.  A summary from James Newhall makes for interesting reading.

What we do know is that business and management education will remain important and should be supported by whichever party comes in. It is great that BIS has approved a higher apprenticeship in Leadership and Management, and a number of business schools, the Chartered ABS, Small Business Charter and CMI are working hard to get the standards ready. This will be another indication of the universal imperative to have highly skilled business and management brains in the country.

Development programmes are a crucial part of what the Chartered ABS offers. As we prepare for the final session of the current cohort of the International Deans’ Programme we are also making preparations for the launch of the revised “Leaders in Learning and Teaching” programme and registrations for the Bridge programme are still coming in.

And finally, congratulations to the London College of Fashion on the launch of the Fashion Business School.
