Skills Commission Apprenticeships & Social Mobility Inquiry: our response

On the 23rd of August, Chartered ABS carried out a survey measuring how reforms to the apprenticeship system are affecting social mobility amongst disadvantaged young people. This was carried out in response to the Skills Commission's call for evidence, designed to ensure that the people who would benefit from apprenticeships the most would not miss out.
In the view of the Chartered ABS, the following areas need to be addressed:
The process of securing initial employment with participating employers and, navigating the admissions process were recorded as the main barriers to young people accessing apprenticeships.
Opportunities for career progression within partnering companies.
Advocating Degree level apprenticeships within schools more frequently, as few schools go in to depth about this type of provision.
