Professor Cathy Cassell, Professor Heather McLaughlin, Michael Hayman MBE DL, Professor Tim Vorley OBE, and Professor Robert MacIntosh have all received the award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Chartered ABS’s mission over the course of several years.
The Fellows were recognised at the Chartered ABS Annual Conference on 4 November 2024.
Professor Robert MacIntosh, University of the West of Scotland
A member of the Chartered ABS Council since 2018, Robert became Chair in 2020 with his first Council meeting just two weeks before lockdown. In his 5 years as Chair, he oversaw the association and its support for the membership through the pandemic, he championed our rise in influence, and played a key role in helping us secure the delivery of the Help to Grow: Management Course. We are extremely grateful for his unwavering commitment to the Chartered ABS and our mission.
Robert is Pro Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation at the University of the West of Scotland.
Professor Cathy Cassell, Durham University Business School
Cathy has been a huge advocate of our work and for the business school sector as a whole. She is a supportive voice and a challenger on Council, attributes which bring great value and will be missed now that she has stepped down. She has given 5 years to us as a Council member, 3 of those as Vice Chair, and we are thankful for her contribution to our mission and evolution during this time.
Cathy is the Executive Dean of Durham University Business School.
Professor Heather McLaughlin, De Montford University
Heather’s tenure as a member of Council ended last year after 6 years. During that time, she also served on our Learning, Teaching and Student Experience Committee, chairing that committee for 3 years. She was, and remains, a tremendous ambassador for learning and teaching within our community and played an important role in supporting the development of the CMBE through the LTSE committee and Council. We are grateful to Heather for her tremendous service.
Heather is Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Academic Staff Development and the Dean of Business and Law at De Montford University.
Michael Hayman MBE DL, Seven Hills
As a member of the inaugural Small Business Charter Management Board, Michael has been part of the SBC since its launch. He returned as Chair in 2021 as we were accelerating delivery of the Help to Grow: Management Course. He has been instrumental in crystalising our mission and purpose and has overseen us grow the SBC’s influence and our network of expert, trusted, accredited business schools to 67 – more than double the number since he began his tenure as Chair. As the SBC celebrates its 10th anniversary, Michael has been integral to its journey.
Michael is the Chair and Co-Founder of Seven Hills.
Professor Tim Vorley, Oxford Brookes University
Tim has been a true champion for the role of business schools in supporting small businesses, student entrepreneurship and local growth. He has brought considerable expertise to the development and growth of the Small Business Charter, as well as supporting both the Chartered ABS and the Small Business Charter as a facilitator, speaker and collaborator across a number of initiatives. He has been on the SBC Management Board for 7 years, 6 of which as Vice Chair. With his tenure now coming to an end, we thank Tim.
Tim is Pro Vice Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University.
