The Chartered ABS publishes response to the International Education Strategy
The Chartered Association of Business Schools has published a formal response to the Government’s International Education Strategy. The strategy outlines three core ambitions to increase the UK’s international standing through education, sustainably recruit high-quality international students, and grow education exports to £40 billion per year by 2030.
In our response, we have highlighted proposals we welcome, those we have concerns about, and areas where we seek further clarity. We focus on the areas we believe will have the biggest impact on business schools, including international student recruitment, transnational education and research policy, and immigration policy.
Business schools have long been at the forefront of establishing the UK as a leading global education destination, playing a central role in driving education exports. We welcome the Government's recognition of this and its commitment to advancing the UK's position further.
However, successive changes to immigration policy have led to declining international student enrolments and a financial sustainability crisis across the sector, which threatens the ability of business schools and universities to deliver on the strategy's ambitions. We believe more concrete and sustained support will be required to enable the sector to meet the strategy's objectives and maintain the UK's position as a world leader in global education.
