Reimagining the Educator-Leader of 2040: Future academic roles and teaching futures in business schools

CMBE Community Meeting

Preparing for the future of business & management education

This interactive futures-thinking workshop explores how AI, changing student expectations, market pressures, and institutional change may reshape the role of the business school educator by 2040.

Through two contrasting future scenarios and collaborative “Educator of 2040” role activities, participants will examine emerging capabilities, tensions, risks, and leadership challenges facing higher education.

The session builds on engagement from the pilot workshop that was delivered at the LTSE 2026 conference and forms part of the wider Educator of 2040 project developed in partnership with I-Lead at King’s College London.

During this interactive sessions participants will:

  • Explore possible future educator-leader identities within business schools

  • Examine how AI and institutional change may reshape teaching and educational leadership

  • Identify emerging tensions, risks, and capability priorities within higher education

  • Contribute to collaborative futures-thinking and reflective discussion

Participants will leave with practical ideas and insights to support future-focused conversations within their own institutions.
