What is the Certified Management & Business Educator scheme?
The Chartered ABS Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) scheme supports business educators globally in their professional development. By providing a robust framework for continuous professional development (CPD), the scheme enables educators to demonstrate teaching excellence, commitment to lifelong learning, and leadership in their field. With active CMBEs in over 30 countries the CMBE community plays a critical role in advancing the quality and reputation of business education within the UK and internationally.
Who are CMBE Professional Standards Board?
The CMBE Professional Standards Board (PSB) consists of independent members from the profession, as well as academic representatives from the global business school community.
The PSB is committed to maintaining the integrity, quality, and relevance of the CMBE scheme. Its responsibilities include upholding strict admissions standards, monitoring CPD compliance, and addressing violations of the Code of Conduct. Additionally, the Board plays a key role in driving strategic improvements to the scheme, ensuring it adapts to the evolving needs of business and management educators, as well as business schools globally.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking experienced professionals with a background in quality assurance, professional development, or training and events, ideally gained in a senior role within a membership or professional body. We are particularly looking for individuals who are not from an academic background (*non-academics), meaning those who have practical, hands-on experience in the field, rather than primarily being involved in academic research or teaching.
Essential qualities include expertise in CPD frameworks, strategic thinking, and a commitment to upholding rigorous professional standards. Desirable attributes include familiarity with business and management education and experience working in international environments. Strong interpersonal skills and a dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion are also important.
"Non-academics" refers to professionals who have gained their expertise through industry experience and applied work, rather than through academic study or roles focused on teaching or research.
What is the commitment?
Members of the CMBE Professional Standards Board are expected to attend three online meetings per year, each lasting approximately two hours. In addition to these meetings, members may occasionally review documentation or contribute to discussions via email. The total time commitment is estimated to be around 2-3 days annually.
