Call for Nominations - Professional Education, Skills & Engagement Committee

The Chartered Association of Business Schools is inviting nominations for membership of its new Professional Education, Skills & Engagement Committee.

About the Committee

The committee will lead on our work to support business schools to be at the forefront of professional education provision, skills policy, and industry engagement. Business schools’ activities are shaped by evolving working practices, employer needs, and government policies and funding, at national and regional levels, around skills and economic growth. This committee will support the Chartered ABS and its members to develop solutions and respond to challenges presented by policy, funding, and changes in the professional education market. 

Role and Responsibilities

Please read the full Terms of Reference here. Committee members will contribute to three core areas:

Advocacy

  • Supporting understanding of skills and economic policy, and implications for funding

  • Contributing to Chartered ABS positions that promote the role of business schools in economic growth and skills development at national and regional levels

Capacity building

  • Identifying development needs of member business schools in their strategic development and delivery of professional education and external engagement

  • Supporting the design and delivery of capacity building activities for members such as workshops, development programmes, and community meetings

Insights

  • Contributing to the development and dissemination of sector insights through data, reports, and thought leadership

Who should apply

We are seeking senior leaders from Chartered ABS member institutions, including Deans, Associate Deans, Directors, or Heads, with strategic responsibility and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Executive and professional education

  • Custom, open, and post-experience programmes

  • Government-funded or corporate-sponsored programmes

  • Apprenticeships

  • External engagement with industry, public, or third sector organisations

Selection Criteria

In appointing members, we will consider:

  •  Demonstrated engagement with Chartered ABS activities

  • Institutional and mission group diversity

  • Regional and national representation, including devolved nations and international members

  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion

Commitment

  •  The committee meets three times per year, with additional meetings as required

  • Members are appointed for an initial two-year term, with the possibility of a second term

Appointments will be made through the Chartered ABS committee recruitment process.

Your application must have the support of your Dean/Head of School* prior to submission:

  • Curriculum Vitae (this should be a maximum of five pages)

  • An expression of interest outlining the skills and experience you can bring to the committee (the letter should be a maximum of two sides of A4)

  • A short letter/email of recommendation from your Dean/Head of School to join the committee. *If you are the Dean/Head of School, please provide a short letter/email of recommendation from your PVC/DVC/VC as appropriate.
