The Chartered Association of Business Schools is inviting nominations for membership of its Professional Managers Committee

About the Committee

The Professional Managers’ Committee (PMC) brings together senior professional services leaders from across the UK business school community to share insight, identify emerging challenges and opportunities, and help shape the future development of professional services within business schools.

The committee acts as a forum for knowledge exchange and sector intelligence, providing advice and input to the Chartered Association of Business Schools on issues affecting professional services staff and the wider business school community.

The committee also plays an important role in supporting and shaping key Chartered ABS initiatives for professional services staff, including the Professional Managers’ Annual Conference (PMAC), the Professional Services Leadership Programme (PSLP), and other development and networking activities.

Role and Responsibilities

Members of the committee work together to:

  • Discuss emerging issues, opportunities and challenges affecting professional services teams within business schools.

  • Share insight, experience and good practice from across the sector.

  • Advise the Chartered ABS on matters relating to professional services leadership and development.

  • Support the development of PMAC, PSLP and other Chartered ABS activities for professional services staff.

  • Help identify priorities for future research, benchmarking and community engagement activity.

  • Act as ambassadors for the professional services community within UK business schools.

Who should apply

We are seeking professional services leaders from Chartered ABS member institutions with strategic responsibility and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Business school operations and administration

  • Student experience, student engagement, and student support

  • Education administration and programme management

  • Careers, employability, skills, and professional development

  • Executive education and lifelong learning

  • Research support, knowledge exchange, and business engagement

  • Internationalisation, transnational education, and partnerships

  • Accreditation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement

  • Marketing, recruitment, communications, and external relations

  • Finance, planning, and resource management

  • Leadership of professional services teams within business schools, faculties, or central university functions

We welcome applications from colleagues working within business schools, as well as those working in faculty-level or central university roles whose responsibilities include supporting business schools.

In appointing new members, the committee will seek to reflect the diversity of the UK business school community, including diversity of institution type, mission group, geographic location, professional background, career stage, and lived experience.

Selection Criteria

When appointing members, we will seek a committee that reflects the breadth and diversity of the UK business school community. In making appointments, consideration will be given to:

  • Relevant professional experience and expertise.

  • Ability to contribute strategically to committee discussions and activities.

  • Commitment to supporting the development of the professional services community.

  • Institutional, mission group and geographic diversity.

  • Diversity of professional background, career stage and lived experience.

  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Commitment

Committee members are expected to play an active role in the work of the committee.

This includes:

  • Attending and contributing to committee meetings.

  • Sharing insight, ideas and examples of good practice from their institution.

  • Supporting the development of PMAC, PSLP and other relevant activities where appropriate.

  • Contributing to consultation, benchmarking and community engagement initiatives.

  • Acting as an advocate for the professional services community within business schools.

The committee typically meets three times per year, with additional meetings or activities arranged as required.

Members are appointed for an initial two-year term and may be reappointed for a second term.

Appointments will be made through the Chartered ABS committee recruitment process and will be considered against the committee's role, responsibilities and membership criteria. In making appointments, we will seek to ensure that the committee reflects the breadth and diversity of the UK business school community.

  • A Curriculum Vitae (maximum three sides of A4)

  • A statement of interest outlining the skills, experience and perspectives you would bring to the committee (maximum one side of A4)

  • A short letter or email of support from your Dean, Head of School, or equivalent senior leader

Successful applicants will be appointed for an initial two-year term and will be invited to attend the committee's next meeting following confirmation of appointments.
