Chartered ABS awards Fellowships for contribution to DEI

19th May 2025

The Chartered Association of Business Schools is pleased to announce its fellows for 2025. Professor Sally Everett CMBE, Vice Dean, Education, King’s Business School and Dr Maria Hussain CMBE, Associate Professor in Management and Organisations, Leeds University Business School have received the award in recognition of their contribution to the Chartered ABS’s mission over the course of several years.

In addition to supporting the Chartered ABS mission, this year’s fellows were also recognised for their exceptional contribution to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through their professional work and within the broader field of business and management education.

As a member of the Chartered ABS Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, Sally Everett has drawn from her extensive expertise to lead research and development initiatives aimed at advancing equity within business schools. Her contributions have had a meaningful impact not only on teaching and learning practices but also in championing the voices of black and minority ethnic staff and supporting the development of female leaders across the sector. She also co-edited the textbook ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for Business and Management’ with Dr Ian Hill, Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Employment Relations (Education), King’s Business School, which was launched at the Learning, Teaching, and Student Experience (LTSE) conference today. In addition, Sally is a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE) and an active advocate for the scheme.

Throughout her career, Maria Hussain has demonstrated a deep and sustained commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with a particular focus on the intersection of race, religion, and gender. Her dedication is evident in her involvement in initiatives that extend beyond her immediate workplace, including her Leeds Institute of Teaching Excellence fellowship which is focused on ‘enhancing the value placed on diversity’. This work has culminated in a museum exhibit called ‘Muslims in the North’, which was featured by the BBC. Maria is an active contributor to the Chartered ABS by serving on the EDI committee and making numerous contributions to Chartered ABS events.

Flora Hamilton, Chief Executive, Chartered Association of Business Schools said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Professor Sally Everett and Dr Maria Hussain as Fellows of the Chartered ABS. Their appointment reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, values that we reaffirmed at the LTSE conference. These two Fellowship awards demonstrate the impact that Sally and Maria have had on our community through the forums we create for members, and through their own valuable work.”

The Fellows were awarded at the Chartered ABS LTSE conference on 19 May 2025.
