The shortlist for the inaugural Management Publication of the Year was announced at the Chartered Association of Business Schools Annual Conference on 5 November 2024.

Chartered ABS Council welcomes new members

We are delighted to welcome four new members to the Chartered ABS Council. The following representives were elected by the membership to the vacant Council seats:

Professor Catherine Robinson, Dean of the School of Business and Law, University of Brighton

An applied economist with 30 years’ experience as a researcher and academic, Kate has published extensively in the fields of productivity and labour economics. She is a visiting fellow at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is also deeply committed to widening participation and inclusion, and has published on how innovative teaching practice can close the attainment gap. Catherine has been Dean of the School of Business and Law at the University of Brighton since July 2024.

Professor Edgar Meyer, Dean of Birmingham Business School

Edgar has been Dean of Birmingham Business School since October 2023, and previously was Deputy Dean at Leeds University Business School. Edgar’s academic work includes leadership and teamwork in health and social care settings. More recently this has included work on leadership in hybrid teams. He has also researched and published in the area of digital pedagogies, focusing on how pedagogical decisions are made for quality online learning design.

Professor Fatima Annan-Diab, Executive Dean and Professor of International Business & Corporate Sustainability, University of East London

Fatima’s background is in financial management, and she has international professional experience in business education and management in Lebanon, Russia, Egypt, France and the UK. Her research interests include Strategy and International Business. She has been Dean of the University of East London since August 2023.

Professor Hannah Holmes, Dean of Business School and Deputy Faculty Pro Vice Chancellor, Manchester Metropolitan University

Hannah is a Principal Fellow of the HEA and Chair of the Economic Review Editorial Board. Hannah holds several external Board and Trustee positions including Prospere Learning Trust and Manchester Metropolitan University Board of Governors. She has been Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Metropolitan University since 2021.

The Council have also made the appointment of an additional co-opted member:

Dr Shirley Rate, Dean of the Glasgow School for Business and Society, Glasgow Caledonian University (Co-opted member)

Shirley’s main teaching and scholarly research interests are in marketing, advertising and communications, and she has been involved in various consultancy projects in marketing and communications planning. Her principal research interests centre on market segmentation and its application to the mature market with specific reference to the hospitality industry. She has been Dean of the Glasgow School for Business and Society since January 2024.
