Inquiry on Soft power: a strategy for UK success: Chartered ABS responds

5th March 2025

Chartered ABS responds to the Foreign Affairs Committee inquiry on Soft power: a strategy for UK success?

In its consultation response, the Chartered ABS emphasises the vital role of UK universities and business schools in strengthening the country’s soft power and global influence. Business schools play a crucial role in enhancing the UK’s international reputation by attracting more international students than any other discipline. These students make significant contributions to economic growth, job creation, and global trade.

UK business schools further support higher education exports and international trade through their strong presence in global markets via transnational education (TNE). Business and management remain the most widely delivered subjects through TNE, reinforcing the UK’s leadership in global education.

To maximise the UK’s soft power potential, Chartered ABS calls on the Government to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for international students and provide greater support for the sector’s TNE initiatives.
