Independent Review of the TEF: our response

The Chartered ABS has published its response to Dame Shirley Pearce’s independent review of the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework at subject-level.

However, we have two fundamental concerns with the Framework as it currently stands. The first is that the metrics do not weight actual teaching quality to a useful extent. The second is that the current rating system is too value-laden and competitive, and risks institutions looking unduly weak on the international stage. We recommend that both be seriously reconsidered if the TEF is to be fit for purpose.
