Academic Journal Guide 2024 updated with latest contextual metrics

16th February 2026

The Chartered ABS has refreshed the 2024 Academic Journal Guide with the latest contextual journal metrics data relating to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, citations to policy documents, collaborations between academics and non-academic stakeholders, the extent of international co-authorship, and the gender composition of editorial boards.

The latest data is for the period of 2020 to 2024 and was provided courtesy of Elsevier from their SciVal research performance analytics platform.

This AJG update also includes publication metrics data courtesy of Sage for the first time. This data covers acceptance rates, time taken to first decision, and time taken to publication for Sage journals in the AJG.

We are open to engaging with other publishers about the inclusion of publication metrics for their AJG-listed journals as we continue to explore options for providing richer data to the AJG to support the research community.

The purpose of the contextual metrics is to provide a wider range of data to assist academics, research groups and business schools to articulate their research goals.

There have been no changes to AJG journal grades in this update. These will be unchanged until the 2027 edition is published.

The AJG 2024 methodology document (available here) explains how AJG journal grades are determined and provides an overview of the contextual metrics.
